What are the entry requirements for a VTCT Level 4 laser course?
The VTCT Skills Level 4 Award in Laser and Light Treatments for Hair Reduction does not specify a mandatory prior qualification at a national level — however, in practice, most VTCT-approved centres (including The Laser Base Training Academy) require students to hold a Level 3 qualification before progressing to the Level 4.
This is because the Level 4 is built on a foundation of anatomy, physiology, skin science, and client care knowledge. Without that underpinning, students are likely to struggle — and more importantly, may not be adequately prepared to work safely with laser equipment on clients.
What if I don't have a Level 3?
This is where The Laser Base Training Academy's two-course offering becomes relevant. We offer the VTCT Skills Level 3 Certificate in Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology for Complementary Therapies alongside our Level 4 laser course — meaning you can complete both qualifications with us.
The Level 3 covers the essential underpinning knowledge — the structure and function of the body's systems, the skin, hair and nails, and pathology relevant to complementary and aesthetic therapies. It's delivered online with flexible study, making it accessible even if you're working around existing commitments.
Once you've completed the Level 3, you're fully prepared to progress to the Level 4 laser training. We also offer a combined package for students who want to complete both qualifications with us from start to finish.
